A Film In Admiration of Man

Lion” reminds me a verse in a Mowlana’s Masnavi; “Everyone who is left far from his source wishes back the time when he was united with it.”

What is happened for “Saroo” character in Lion, is the symbol of modern characters in a kind of geographical force; a force that if its’ tied with a little chance will be changed to a total authority and change the life of a man completely. The film is started with shots from poor region in a city in India; a place where people do dangerous works for filling their stomachs, and robbing coal from express train which is moving is one of them.

Saroo faced to a completely different way from his routine life while he was doing one of these small dangerous robberies. Alone and deprived, he fell asleep in train and he was delivered to an orphan care center; a center which is the symbol of his flight to another world because a Spanish couple became interested in his image published by the center and they immediately accept him as their stepchild.

Lion was screened in 36th FIFF has two surface and hidden layers; the surface one has roots in different suspensions that automatically reminds Bollywood melodramas but hidden beauties have other stories to tell; hidden stories which have modern understanding of world-hometown philosophy while accompanies peace and acceptance. In the crowd cruel today world, Lion by Garth Davis can be counted as an invitation for all human beings to understand and know each other more and more; an invitation that has memorable acting of its cast “Rooney Mara” “David Wenham”, “Nicole Kidman” which leads audience to feel the climax of belief and calmness.

Separate from other concepts, Lion is in admiration of life and reminds the point that all people in every place of the world are responsible to each other; a complete responsibility that a mother and a father must feel on her/his shoulders. Combination of life of a western and eastern man and mixture of them together made the film as a brilliant that reminds us Utopia.
