100-Year Purpose; Training Young Generation

Before four years ago, FIFF was just one festival which covered national and international sections, but the way has been changed in past four years and the audience experience two different film festivals in two different times with different directors and policies.

While national section of Fajr Film Festival decreases its parts, FIFF is interested in new sections and exploring new talents; this is the policy that the festival has had during its recent editions; giving opportunity to the young generation; it means opposite the National Fajr, FIFF has opened its doors to youth.

It seems that the festival team have 100-year purpose in they have designed their horizon not for close but its for a far future so they have made “Darolfonoun” section. “Darolfonoun” of “Talent Campus” has been run with the main target of exploring new talents with holding some workshops and courses under the supervision of Iranian and International cineastes and masters. Students become permanent member of the center after passing 6-day courses, so their cinematic activities will be observed by the festival during the year.

Of course, as Reza Mirkarimi as the director of the festival told Etemad before; “We want to be representative of the cinemas of all countries of the region” so, it’s not weird that the section belongs to the young filmmakers of the region countries and the world ones.

On the other hand, opposite to the Fajr Festival in national section which doesn’t intend to young filmmakers, in 36th FIFF, there are 5 Iranian films and 6 international films from the director who has made their first works and they compete for winning the best film award.

Paying attention to the youth is delightful on the one hand, and on the other hand is worrying. It is delightful because it seems that the festival team is aware of the essentiality of paying attention to the young generation and they have opened the door for them without obsessions but it is worrying because the policies of a festival cannot be continued and they will change with changing the director of it. We should be hopeful that with evaluating the effect of this look, paying attention to the young generation be continued.
